I have worked in libraries for several years, initially in public libraries before transferring to the HE sector where I currently work. I am also currently completing a Masters in Information and Library Studies and I’m in the process of conducting research on my chosen topic of ‘The impact of community libraries on the digital divide‘ (working title).
In 2010, I co-founded Voices for the Library with a number of fellow information professionals. The organisation was established to highlight the importance and value of both public libraries and librarians. Despite operating without a budget (and solely by volunteers), the organisation has received a certain degree of coverage in the mainstream media and is often a reference point when it comes to issues around libraries and library closures. In 2011, the Voices for the Library Twitter account was named one of the Independent’s ‘Independent Voices of 2011‘.
